Meet the locals – Philip Zea
President of Historic Deerfield
- My favorite things to do include:
Trips with my family; fishing and skiing when I can; going to auctions; working on old buildings; staying out of trouble, mostly - I was born and raised:
Near Hanover, New Hampshire, in the upper Connecticut River Valley, and still spend as much time as possible “up country.” - I currently live:
Splitting my time between Old Deerfield and Norwich, Vermont - How I earn my bread and butter:
As Historic Deerfield’s President. I was the museum’s chief curator for several years. Does that mean that spreadsheets and personnel issues are more fun than Deerfield’s great collections of antiques and art?! - Five things I love about the Deerfield and Pioneer Valley area:
The Deerfield River; the early history of western Massachusetts; the center villages in the hill towns; my neighbors who work with and care about the great natural environment around us; fresh sweet corn. - My favorite local hidden treasure you shouldn’t miss:
Memorial Hall Museum in Deerfield - My perfect day spent in the Deerfield and Pioneer Valley area:
Breakfast at the Four Leaf Clover in Bernardston; fishing along the Vermont border; going to an auction; lunch at Green Fields Market in Greenfield; poking around the museum houses at Historic Deerfield; going for a long walk in the Deerfield meadows; enjoying dinner at the Deerfield Inn—honest!
